The GIF Hall of Fame

With Neocities having a culture that harkens back to the opening years of the commecial internet, it occurred to me that I have saved a lot of animated gifs going all the way back to 1998. While most were made simply as a highlight or, later, as an animated reaction image, some of them were truly inventive and funny.

What will be seen below are my absolute favorite original gifs. That means these are not just captures of movies, television shows, and YouTube videos, even if an original caption was added such as the great Swear Trek series. As far as I am aware, somebody at least animated a picture if not created all the graphics.

The GIF Hall of Fame: First Inductees

Starting with animals and, of course, cats, this is probably the most well known of the older gifs in this inaugural GIF Hall of Fame class. Despite its age, it continues to be perfectly relevant for a plethora of situations.

While this isn't a funny cat gif, it's pretty amazing.

Moving over to another animal near and dear to my heart, the good ol' trash panda, this is a great piece of completely random WTF.

Still on animals even though not a real one, while David Cameron long ago ceased to be the United Kingdom's Prime Minister, this one coming in the wake of the story about his supposed "interaction" with a pig still makes me laugh.

This one involves a completely fictional animal, a dancing tribble. I hope even those that are not Star Trek fans enjoy the absolute absurdity of this gif, especially with often grouchy Dr. McCoy as the shining sun.

This is the first of two with hot dogs as happy little living creatures. I don't know if there is a source or backstory on these, but I absolutely love them.

Truly a work of art.

On the same theme, a simple buy hilariously effective animation of Bill and his two wieners.

Speaking of happy, nobody was happier than Bob Ross. Watching him is indeed a bit hypnotizing, so this gif is quite appropriate. All glory to the Hypnobob!

Then, there are gifs where somebody is taken completely out of character. However, I have a feeling that Bob would have roared with laughter over this one.

I'm not sure how this Spamton character from Deltarune got involved with the Big Bill Hell's Used Cars meme as I've seen the combination more than once, but I'm glad that he did. Chaotic gifs FTW!!!

Speaking of chaotic gifs, this one that I found titled "Your Argument Is Invalid" is pretty much the epitome of the style.

While I believe this one is merely the addition of some flames added to some news footage taken from a major flood in Nashville, it's simply too perfect to not be inducted.

Probably the newest gif in this inaugural class, how can one not love the animation of this great portion of a "Stan Kelly" (Ward Sutton) editorial cartoon from The Onion?
